The Dawn Chorus / The Retrospective Soundtrack Players - Blogging all over the World

My name is Kyle. I am a happily failing indie/punk/folk/country/rock musician from Hampshire, UK. I have been singing and songwriting in The Dawn Chorus since 2005, and The Retrospective Soundtrack Players since 2010. I love these two bands like my brother/wife rolled into one. This blog details the shows I have played with both bands, in chronological order.

CXLV - Bestival - 12/09/09

12/09/09

Bestival, Isle of Wight

The biggest festival we've done so far, even if we were on a fairly tiny stage. It was however much bigger than the stage at Lennon's earlier in the week. About eight times bigger actually. Bestival was a bit huge for me, as far as festivals go, the sort of festival where it's a military operation to keep a group together, especially when no-one's phone works.
Our stage was quite quiet for some bands, but for us the sun was out and a lot of people stopped by. We did a nice long set of old and new and sold quite a bit of merch to pay for the ferry. Afterwards I watched Florence and the Machine (so-so, sound on the main stage was pretty poor throughout though), Soulwax (pretty good, perhaps the odd guitar track would be nice rather than just playing snatches of Daft Punk though), MGMT (started well, plummeted into boring territory), then got some wedges and beans (nice), went to watch a bit of Massive Attack but didn't even notice them start their set, then watched Frankmusik in the big tent (I quite liked him but I don't think I'm supposed to) and then waited for aaaaages to watch Bat for Lashes, who were/was pretty good, but my legs hurt severely. I wanted to stick around for 2ManyDJs but I think my legs would have busted through my hips.
Good fun all in all, Sammy Davis Jr Jr/Julian (aka the van) got to rub shoulders with some silly big tour buses, and Neil didn't even get too sunburnt.
