The Dawn Chorus / The Retrospective Soundtrack Players - Blogging all over the World

My name is Kyle. I am a happily failing indie/punk/folk/country/rock musician from Hampshire, UK. I have been singing and songwriting in The Dawn Chorus since 2005, and The Retrospective Soundtrack Players since 2010. I love these two bands like my brother/wife rolled into one. This blog details the shows I have played with both bands, in chronological order.

CCXXVII - Incest Fest @ The Wine Vaults, Southsea - 19/07/12

Thursday 19th July 2012
Incest Fest @ The Wine Vaults, Southsea

Southsea supergroup Covers Bingo!
The Dawn Chorus
The B of the Bang
Zegema Beach
The Retrospective Soundtrack Players
Roxanne Johns
Analogue Manilow
Rich Keam

All your favourite incestuous Southsea musicians under one roof! This was an acoustic extravaganza that we'd been hoping to do for a long time, and it just about came off. This was the first DC set for 18 months, though sadly Nelly and Simps had to pull out due to injury.

The high point (arguably) of the night was Covers Bingo, in which an assortment of the above musicians played random pre-selected covers:

Kyle and Wit - 'Yes' by McAlmont & Butler (thankfully Keef came up to help me sing it. It was one of those horrendous nightmare moments trying to hit those high notes, a bit like the dream when you go to school naked or can't remember anything for an exam.)
Kyle, Paul and Elliott, later joined by Ochs and Wit - 'Ring of Fire' by Johnny Cash (this was easy, DC have been doing it for years)
The B of the Bang - 'Cum on feel the Noize' by Slade, 'Tipsy' by J-Kwon (amazing)
Kyle, Wit, Paul, Elliott - 'You can call me Al' by Paul Simon (complete with horrendous failed attempt at coordinated dancing by myself and Wit)

encore:
The B of the Bang - 'Gay Bar' by Electric Six (to which I performed a press-up solo)

And then, to bed.
